As the father of the Stoic
philosophy Citium Zeno believed that the path to happiness comes from adjusting
to those things we confront on our walk through life.
Health, wealth and
pleasure, for example, are not good or bad in themselves, but it is how we react
to our situation that determines our happiness.
Stoic thought is found in many Biblical passages such
as the words Paul writes in Philippians 4:11-12: I’ve learned to be content in all
things.
This belief system is difficult. But in the next verse Paul encourages us with these words, I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me.
I'm no theologian but it seems verse 4:13 indicates that the strength of Christ will give us the power to do his will and and conquer the challenges that come our way.
Every day we can enjoy the blessings, the benefits, the boons, the bonuses, the breaks and the benisons we have each day.... and be happy most words don't begin with the letter, B.
In addition to appreciating our blessings, we can endeavor to prevail over our unfortunate circumstances by working to improve our situation. We can focus on what's important now.
Living in day-tight compartments—forgetting the past, not worrying about the future—just enjoying what we have and doing the best we can day-by-day produces the optimal results for living well. A better future comes from a daily focus.
